A. Yes we offer a full, no questions, money back guarantee. If you are not totally satisfied with your djembe, or anything else we sell, you can return it at any time up to 14 days after purchase for a full refund. No restocking fees.
Q. Can I order a drum with my waveriders.org number on it?
A. We do offer custom numbering so you can have multiple drums with the same number.
Design
Q. How does the Serpentine Tensioning System (STS) compare to conventional rope tuning?
A. STS offers a huge advantage over rope-tuned drums. STS requires only a few turns of the tuning key, whereas a rope tuning involves learning the Mali weave and applying tension by compounding the weave at many points around the drum. With STS changing a head takes about 15 minutes, compared with hours to change a head on a rope tuned drum.
Q. How does the Serpentine Tensioning System (STS) compare with other mechanical tuning systems?
A. STS is the easiest tuning system on the planet. With only two points to add tension, it is easier than any other mechanical tuning system to evenly tension the head. With STS, the top ring has a smooth natural shape which sits very close to the body of the drum. This makes any contact with the top ring, while playing, easy on your hands. Other mechanical tuning systems are bulky and heavy.
Q. So all this natural fiber stuff is great, but do they sound good?
A. The sound of the waveriders djembe is magical. We spent five years creating BioCell to match the tones of the master crafted West African djembes, and we have been successful. The hemp plant has a mystical warm tone that is better than the endangered hardwood it replaces.
Q. What about a pick-up for amplification?
A. Our drums come with an option for an internal mic set-up. Plug in and go electric. Order as an option under accessories.

Q. Why hemp fiber?
A. The hemp plant is a prolific, renewable and sustainable source of fiber, and can be cultivated without the use of pesticides, herbicides or fertilizer. It is an annual crop, and its use does not contribute to deforestation. It is naturally strong and UV resistant. The most sensible choice among natural fiber composites.
Q. Is BioCell sustainable? Renewable?
A. The hemp fiber we use to reinforce BioCell is a sustainable and renewable resource. We bond and finish the fibers and particles together with resin so our djembes will last a lifetime, therefore BioCell is not biodegradable.
Q. Why a natural Goat Skin head?
A. Natural goat skins offer the best sound and they are a renewable and sustainable resource. Our goat skins come from goats which are raised in a healthy environment. They are not killed for their skins, and every part of the goat is used.
Q. How was Biocell developed?
A. Most of the wood used for wooden drums ends up on the shop floor as sawdust. BioCell was developed from the need for a wood substitute. Using particles of Hemp to make a wood composite that is moldable, allows for very efficient use of the resource, and a perfectly molded sound chamber. There is no manufacturing byproduct and all the material goes into the drum shell.
Tuning
Q. How do I tune my drum?
A. Simple. Insert the tensioning key into the tensioner and turn clockwise to add tension. Visit Tuning Tips on our site for a complete overview.
Q. How do I change a worn head?
A. Pick up a replacement head kit in our marketplace, and follow the easy instructions (link).
Return Policy
Q. What does the warranty cover?
A. Our warranty covers your drum and hardware, and any defects in materials and workmanship. Damage due to abuse or negligence can be repaired for a reasonable charge. The goat skin head will wear out with use and is not covered under warranty. If you need a new head, pick up a head replacement kit in our marketplace and follow the easy replacement instructions, or send it in and we can replace it for $35.
Q. Do I need a Return Authorization number to return product?
A. Yes. Contact us at info@waveriders.org, or call our toll free number to get an RA number and return info. Any product returned without an RA# will be returned to sender without repair, replacement or credit.
